  • Peter Van den Bossche Joins XJTU as National Chair Professor

Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is delighted to announce that Professor Peter Van den Bossche, a globally acclaimed scholar in the field of international economic law, will join as a Chair Professor of International Economic Law under China’s National Talents Programme.

Professor Van den Bossche brings an extraordinary wealth of academic and professional experience to XJTU. From 2009 to 2019, he served as Member and Chair of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and, more recently, as Director of the World Trade Institute of the University of Bern, Switzerland. Since 2018, he is the President of the Society of International Economic Law (SIEL). He is the author (with Werner Zdouc) of the leading textbook on WTO law, of which the 5thedition was published by Cambridge University Press in 2021. He is the author (with Professor Dean SHAN Wenhua) of a Chinese edition of this book published by Law Press China in 2019. His work has profoundly shaped the global understanding of international trade law and dispute settlement, earning him recognition as a leading figure in the field.

As a leading scholar, Professor Van den Bossche will contribute to advancing research and teaching at XJTU’s School of Law. His appointment is a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering global academic excellence and building a world-class platform for legal research and education.
